The martensitic transformation in In . = .T], alloys with x = 0.28, 0.29, 0. 3 1 , 0. 3 1 'and 0.35 has been stuided by means of simultaneous measurements of the fractionalchange of sound velocity Av./v. and the sound attenuation coefficient a(7') as afunction of temperature T. Main results are as follows: (i) For the samples withx from 0.28 to 0.31' there has been observed a dip or a plateau or a kinick-pointat T from 98 K to 50 K, respectively, in the plot of Av./v. versus T on cooling.On the other hand, in ct(T) versus T a single or double peaks were observed atT from 98 K to 55 K, corresponding to the results in ,4v./v. versus 17. (it) Thefeatures of the anomalies are somewhat complicated; there was no observationto be ascribed to the effect of the transformation into a metastable state whichis expected to occur in the samples with ,v<0.31.
