Anomalous Peak in the Magnetoacoustic Attenuation Coefficient Versus Temperature Curve in Bismuth

Investigating the magnetoacoustic attenuation in bismuth under simultaneousabsorption due to electrons and holes, we have found that at a characteristictemperature T. ($2.5 K) a peak occurs in the plot of the attenuation coefficientct(T, f H,) versus Tat the angles ?0 -90'l -2' and at H,x2O kG. Here the soundwave vector q is applied in parallel to the trigonal axis and H is in a bisectrix-trigonal plane, and 0 is the angle between q and H. We have also found that theslope of at(T, f H,) versus frequency f is quite large at T - T. but it is rathernormal at 7'>>T.. The occurrence of Tg and the enhancement degree of the magni-tude of a(T., f H,) are sensitive to physical imperfections as well as the angle 0.The origin of the anomaly is discussed on the basis of some phenomenologicalmodels.
