Electron-Phonon Coupling Constant of the Oxide Superconductor BaPb_<1-x>Bi_xO_3

By means of measurements of the ultrasonic attenuation and velocity change,we have derived the magnitude of McMi]]an's parameter 2 of the oxide super-conductor BaPb.-.Bi.0. (,X'=0.20-0.25). In this derivation we have assumedthat the interaction between the conduction electrons and the sound waves is ofthe deformation potential type and the magnetic field dependent part of theattenuation at T<T. is contributed from the normal conduction electrons. Thevalue obtained is 2 -O.S5 for the sample with I.: 10.5 K. It is shown that arelatively large deformation potential constant l V d l =2.0 eV, which is 2.7 timeslarger than the Fermi energy and comes into 2 in square, counterbalances thesmall density of states of this material and consequently leads to a reasonablylarge magnitude of 2 for this rather semimetallic material.
