Phenomenological Equations Relating Various Critical Anomalies above a Cubic-to-Tetragonal Phase Transition Point

Phenomenological equations are derived which interrelate the anomalies invarious thermodynamic quantities above the.transition poizzt of a cubic-to-tetragonal phase transition caused by an instability of a triply degenerate softmode. The anomalous part of the Gibbs free energy is assumed to be a simple sumof "the three parts which tepresent the contributions from the' three fluctuationcomponents. A cylindrical approximation is adopted to each of the three con-tributions by taking into account the symmetry of the fluctuations. The theorypredicts that the adiabatic elastic compliances, .s'f., .s'f., and also .s'f. -sfz shouldexhibit anomalies proportional to the anomaly in the specific heat at constantpressure. This is in marked contrast with the result of the generalized Pippardequations derived by Garland, and by Janovec. The new equations are successfullytested for KMnF., CsPbCl3, and CsPbBr3. The fi-y transition of N}l.Br is alsodiscussed." ??"? "';
