Dielectric Dispersion in K_2ZnCl_4 around the Incommensurate-Commensurate Phase Transition Point

The complex dielectric constant of K.ZnCl. was measured in the frequencyrange from 100 MHz to 800 MHz around thephase transition point T.. A nearly Debye-type dispersion was observed, ofwhich the relaxation time showed a critical slowing down. The relaxation fre-quency was about 50 MHz at T.. The static dielectric constant above T. obeys theCurie-Weiss law with the Curie constant of about 95 K. Both the static dielectricconstant and the relaxation time showed thermal hysteresis in the incommen-surate phase.
