A single domaiua cr)'stal uxadergoes polarization reversalthrougl? the sidewise expansion of dontains nucleated at tlte predetermined locatioxasin tlae bulk or at tlve crystal edges. Tlte jaltase of tlve prixnary order paraxmeters differsby n betw'een the sw'jtched and ux?sw'itclced regioxts, atad t1?e xvhole crystal is finallyswitched to a single doxnain. The polarizatiout rex'ersal process in a multidoxnaincrystal is very complicated. The crystal CQII laardl)' be cltavaged into a single domainstate by tlte application of a dc field.
