We present the first experimental evidence of the effect of uniaxial tension on avolume phase transition (or get-get transition) of polymer gets. With an increase in themagnitude of tension, the first-order transition temperature T. of poly-N-isopropylacrylamide 7 water get increases and the size discontinuity at the transitionbecomes larger. These results are consistent with a phenomenological theory ofvolume phase transition of gets under anisotropic stress. The magnitude of the shiftof T. with tension can be correctly predicted using empirical parameters determinedin previous studies.
