The behavior of a polymer in dilute solution is examined in a Couette flow. Itwill be gradually stretched as the shear is increased above the smallest relaxationrate of a chain (ccg ', g being the equilibrium size). Predictions are made on thenon-Newtonian shear viscosity, light scattering, and birefringence.
