Differential Cross Section and Polarization Effects in pp→pN^* and SU(6)⨂O(3) Structure

• On the basis of the symmetric quark model, the differential cross section and the polarization effect in pp→pN^* is calculated. These quantities are related to the NN elastic scattering amplitude by assuming that N and N^* have SU(6)⨂O(3) structure. Our results show that it seems possible to explain the reaction NN→NN^* by their SU(6)⨂O(3) structure. However, our knowledge on the helicity and isospin dependence of the input NN elastic scattering amplitude is not enough to derive more detailed conclusions.
