We survey the theoretical investigations on the energy levels of positronium, especially the ground state hyperfine structure. These investigations contain the perturbation theory of energy levels of the relativistic bound state, the gauge variance and invariance of the perturbational calculations and the contributions of the kernels of higher orders which cannot be neglected.
