The effect of the anomalous magnetic moment in the short range effective quark-gluon interaction on the charmonium mass splittings is examined. The 1S, 2S, and ^3P_J state splittings can be understood phenomenologically by its effect. On the basis, the mass of as-yet-unobserved ^1P_1 state is predicted.
