Tunable near-UV (390-412.5 nm) laser radiations have been generated in a new nonlinear optical crystal, K2Al2B2O7 (KABO) by the type-I second-harmonic generation (SHG) of Ti:Sapphire laser. It is found that the measured phase-matching angles differ substantially from the calculated results based on the original Sellmeier dispersion relations of this material. However, our measured phase-matching data is explained satisfactorily with the recently published Sellemeier dispersion relations. The maximum SHG energy conversion efficiency as high as 6.2% has been obtained with the fundamental energy density of 8.6 mJ/cm2.
