Diffusion of Metal Ions and Stimulated Currents into a-As2Se3 Thin Films

The current-voltage characteristics of a-As2Se3 vacuum-evaporated films doped with Cu, Ag or Au metal have been investigated by a bias-voltage scanning method at several temperatures. The diffusion current of metal ions by an electric field was observed in the $I$-$V$ characteristics. A stimulated current, which was generated by the interaction between metal ions and charged dangling bonds of the chalcogenide atoms, was observed. Electrical conductivity in chalcogenide glass due to the hopping of the doped metal ions is discussed along with the current by the carriers induced by the diffusion of the metal ions.
