Infrared Lattice Vibrations and Dielectric Dispersion in Antiferromagnetic Semiconductor MnSe_2

The infrared reflection spectrum of an antiferromagnetic semiconductor MnSe.was measured in the energy range 30N1000 cm ', and four optical phonon modeswere observed at 140 cm ', 157 cm ', 175 am ', and 223 cm '. The opticalconstants were calculated by Kramers-Kronig analysis, and were also analyzedby the classical oscillator model. From these dielectric constants, the longitudinaland the transverse optical phonon frequencies were estimated. The Born andSzigeti effective charges were calculated and the ionicities among MnS., MnSe.,MnTe. and FeS. were studied in relation to magnetic properties of these com-pounds. It is verified also that the generalized Lyddane-Sachs-Teller equationapply well to MnSez.
