Echinosporin, 6-carbamoyl-1-hydroxy-3,5-dioxatricyclo[6.3.0.0<SUP>4,9</SUP>]undeca-6,10-dien-2-one, is a novel antibiotic. The space group is P2<SUB>1</SUB>2<SUB>1</SUB>2<SUB>1</SUB> with <I>a</I>=9.716(1), <I>b</I>=13.823(1), <I>c</I>=7.202(1) Å, and <I>Z</I>=4. The structure was solved by the direct method and refined to the <I>R</I> value of 0.049 by the block-diagonal least-squares method using 1239 reflexions. The molecule has a fused tricylo structure which consists of two six-membered rings and one five-membered ring.
