• Metal complexes of trimethylamine oxide with cobalt (II), zinc (II) and cadmium (II) have been prepared.<BR>The infrared spectra of trimethylamine oxide and its complexes have been measured in the 1500 to 300 cm<SUP>−1</SUP> range. Assignment of the observed bands has been made on the basis of the calculation of the normal vibrations of trimethylamine oxide.<BR>The band at 950 cm<SUP>−1</SUP> was found to be mainly contributed by the N–O stretching vibration, as was expected from the former investigations, but it was also considerably contributed to by the other mode of vibrations.<BR>The metal-O stretching band was not found in the region of the present investigation; consequently, a rather weak bond was assumed to exist between trimethylamine oxide and metal ions.
