Some planar binuclear copper(II) complexes showed high catalytic activity for the chemiluminescence of luminol in the presence of hydrogen peroxide compared with those of mononuclear planar copper(II) complexes. The formation of singlet O<SUB>2</SUB> in the reaction mixture of a binuclear copper(II) complex and hydrogen peroxide was assumed to play a key role in the catalytic function of the binuclear copper(II) complexes for the luminol chemiluminescence.
