Substituent effect on stereoselectivity for cobalt(III), chromium(III), and manganese(III) complexes of ring-substituted 1-l-menthyloxy-3-benzoylacetones.

• Stereoselectivities of tris(1-<I>l</I>-menthyloxy-3-benzoylacetonato)M(III) ([M(<I>l</I>-moba)<SUB>3</SUB>] (M=Co<SUP>III</SUP>, Cr<SUP>III</SUP>, Mn<SUP>III</SUP>)) and its homologs [M(<I>l</I>-moba-Br)<SUB>3</SUB>] and [M(<I>l</I>-moba-Me)<SUB>3</SUB>] (possessing bromo and methyl substituents at the 4-position of the aromatic ring, respectively) were examined by CD spectra. The stereoselectivity increased in the order [Co(<I>l</I>-moba-Br)<SUB>3</SUB>]<[Co(<I>l</I>-moba)<SUB>3</SUB>]<[Co(<I>l</I>-moba-Me)<SUB>3</SUB>], and this trend was explained in terms of the electronic effect of the substituents on the interligand CH/π-interaction.
