Starch grains are classified into three types (A, B and their mixture) according to its X-ray diffraction pattern. Following results were obtained by investigating diffraction patterns of starch grains prepared from about 200 plants. 1) As a whole, the starch grains in plants of the same variety have the similar diffraction patterns. 2) Each pattern of starch grains contained at two or three parts in one plant is almost uniform regardless of its storage part. 3) Starch grains coexisting with inulin in a plant, belongs to B type. 4) Results of this studies suggest that the X-ray diffraction patterns of starch grains are related to some extent to the classification of plants.
