STUDIES ON INDEX COMPOUNDS FOR HPLC ANALYSIS OF GLYCYRRHIZA GLABRA

EtOAc extracts of subterranean parts of Glycyrrhiza glabra provided two types of HPLC profiles both distinctively different from those of G. uralensis. The index compounds for HPLC analysis of G. glabra, were six compounds, glabrene, parviso-flavone B, glabridin, 3,4-didehydroglabridin, 3-hydroxyglabrol and glabrol, and four minor compounds, 4'-O-methylglabridin, shinflavone and hispaglabridins A and B, which were isolated and identified. The HPLC peaks of 3-hydroxyglabrol and glabrol were characteristic of one (type A) of the two types, and the peak of parviso-flavone B of the other (type B). None of these 10 compounds was included in the 11 index compounds for HPLC analysis of G. uralensis.
