(1S)-[1-^2H]-sn-Glycerol (1a) was obtained in three steps from (6S)-[6-^2H]-1,6-anhydro-β-D-galactopyranose and converted to the (1R)-isomer (1b) via an S_N2 reaction of a 1-0-methanesulfonylated derivative. The ^1H and ^<13>C-NMR spectra well characterized their structure and stereochemistrv.
