Chloroplast Development in 4-Thiouridine-Cultued Radish Seedlings V. Protein Synthesis in Vivo

Incorporation of ^<14>C-amino acids into proteins in radish cotyledons was suppressed by 4-thiouridine (4SU) culture. The inhibitory effect of 4SU was similar to that of chloramphenicol. 4SU culture did not reduce the content of ferredoxin (Fd) and the labeling into Fd significantly, but it did decrease the content and the synthesis of ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase (RuBPCase). The synthesis of thylakoid chlorophyll-proteins I and 11 also was inhibited by 4SU culture. In 4SU-cultured seedlings, the ratio of labeling into the large and small subunits of RuBPCase and that into the two chlorophyll-proteins were the same as those in the controls grown without 4SU.
