Effects of some metabolic inhibitors on flowering of Lemna gibba G_3, a long-day duckweed

Flowering of Lemna gibba G_3, a long-day duckweed, was inhibited by adding CuSO_4, AgNO_3, HgCl_2, Na_2WO_4 or iodoacetamide to the medium at the concentrations inducing long-day flowering in Lemna poucicostata 6746, a short-day duckweed. This suggests that these metabolic inhibitors affected the photoperiodic sensitivity rather than directly affecting flower initiation. Ferricyanide promoted flowering in both of these short-day and long-day duckweeds.
