The hydrolysis of 3α, 20α-disulpho-oxy-5α-pregnane (5α-pregnane-3α, 20α-diol disulfate, VII) in boiling 3 N hydrochloric acid gave Δ^<13>-steroid as a main product, which was completely identical with the synthetic one (Va) prepared by the dehydration of 5α-pregnane-3α, 17α-diol (IVa). Other minor products obtained and identified were the E-isomer of 17-ethylidene compound (IIb) and intact aglycone (VI).
