The effect of oleic acid on cholesterol oxidase production by Shizophyllum commune was investigated. It was found that the cholesterol oxidase production rate depended on the amount of oleic acid in the culture, and that the insoluble oleic acid adsorbed onto the cell surface directly infuenced the cholesterol oxidase production. Optimal operational conditions are discussed in terms of oleic acid concentration and agitation strength.
