Immobilization of Catalase with Photo-crosslinkable Resin Perpolymers

Bacterial catalase was immobilized by entrapping with photo-crossilinkable resin prepolyemers. THe relative activity of the immobilized enzyme was affected by the chain-length of the prepolymers, the illumination time, and the proportion of water in the immobilization system. Longer the chain-length of the prepolymers was, higher the relative activity of the immobilized enzyme was obtained but lesser the mechanical properties of the gels became. Immobilized catalase showed wider ranges of pH and temperature optima than those of the free enzyme. Batch-wise or continuous degradation of relatively low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide was acheved by the immobilized enzyme.
