• The title compounds were prepared stereoselectively from 1,2: 5,6-di-<I>O</I>-isopropylidene-3-<I>C</I>-methylene-α-D-<I>ribo</I>-hexofuranose (<B>1</B>) and 3-<I>O</I>-benzyl-1,2-<I>O</I>-isopropylidene-5-<I>C</I>-methylene-6-<I>O</I>-trityl-α-D-<I>xylo</I>-hexofuranose (<B>5b</B>) by the successive epoxidation and reduction, and from 3-<I>O</I>-benzyl-1,2-<I>O</I>-isopropylidene-6-<I>O</I>-trityl-α-D-<I>xylo</I>-hexofuranos-5-ulose (<B>5a</B>) by the Grignard reaction, respectively.
