• The configuration of the ethyl 2-bromo-3-nitro-2-alkenoate formed by the elimination of hydrogen bromide from ethyl 2,3-dibromo-3-nitroalkanoate was determined to be (<I>Z</I>) by the examination of the <SUP>13</SUP>C NMR spectra.
