Theory of X-Ray Photoemission and X-Ray Emission Spectra in Mu Compounds

We analyze theoretically X-ray photoernission spectra (XPS) from Mn 2p arxd 3p core-levels inMn conapounds and Mn Kp X-ray emission spectra (XBS) by uneans of an 1VIX6 cltrster model.In the calculation of 3p-XPS and K/17-XBS, we take into account the elect of the term-dependentlifetime of the lVIn 3p core-hole due to the 3p-3d3d strper-Cosier-Kroning decay. The K/17-XES istreated as a coherent second-order optical process, and the excitation spectra of K/J-XES, whichreflect the spin-dependent Mn 1,s absorption, are also calculated. It is shown that the efl'ect ofthe core-hole potential plays 2111 essential role in the excitation spectra of lVII1F2 and MnO. Theimportance of the term-dependent lifetime of the final states is also pointed otrt.
