Temperature-Dependences of Second and Third Harmonics of the Spin-Density-Wave in Chromium

Self-consistent calculations of amplitudes of primary spin-density-wave A_1, second harmonic charge-density-wave A_2 and third harmonic spin-density-wave A_3 in chromium are made with a smiple two-band model both by a perturbation method and an exact numerical method. It is shown that A_2 is almost always proportional to (A_1)^2 irrespective of the sign of a coupling constant υ relevant to charge density interaction, but that the behavior of A_3 depends on the sign of υ. When υ is positive (i.e. repulsive interaction), A_3 is proportional to (A_1)^3 at temperatures close to the Neel point, but shows a tendency of saturation at low temperatures, in agreement with recent experimental observations by Phynn et al. When υ is negative, the saturation of A_3 is absent.
