Theory of Optical Absorption Spectra in Chromium and ITs Alloys

Optical absorption spectra in the incommensurate sinusoidal spin-density-wave in chromium are calculated with a one-dimensional two-band model where the difference of the Fermi momenta of the two bands is taken into account. Three absorption peaks are found to appear, originating from the formation of energy gaps. For these peaks, the energy positions, line shapes, relative intensities, and the changes of these quantities by alloying with Mn are investigated both analytically and numerically. It is shown that the results are in good agreement with experimental observations. Main features of the results are shown to remain unchanged, when a more realistic model of octahedral energy surfaces is used.
