Theory of Cu 2p X-Ray Emission Spectroscopy in CuO and La_2CuO_4

Soft X-ray emission spectroscopy due to the Cu 3d=2p electronic transition (Cu27t-XIS) is one of the powerful tools for investigating the local nature of the Cu 3dstate in high-7'. superconductors. We theoretically investigate Cu 2717-XIS for Cu0and La.Cu0. based upon the impurity Anderson model and the formula of the second order optical process. Justification for this model is given by that available ex-perimental data of Cu 27t-XES, 2p-XPS, 27t-XAS and 3(l/-XPS are satisfactorilyreproduced in a unified way. According to Cu 27t-XIS experiments so far made, ashoulder structure appears on the high energy side of the main peak in La.Cu0. andalso in high-7'. superconductors, but it is absent in Cub. It is shown that the ap-pearance of the shoulder structure originates from the stronger hybridization for thea,. symmetry states in La.CuO. than in Cu0 due to the existence of the apical oxygen.[X-ray emission, high-I. superconductors, Cub, La.CuO., high energy spec- ll troscopyl
