Degree of polarization of the o and n etmissions lm,as been measured to defer-mine the polarization of the absorption bands clue to the STE in NaC], KCI,KBr and RbBr crystals under double excitation by 21 pulsed electron beam anda ?"uby laser. (]) Tlte lowest, (2) fate second lowest anal (3) fate third lowest energyabsorption bands ita near i?tfrared region due to tEte STE are (]) m-polarized,(2) a-polarized and (3) slightly a-polarized (]) in Nal:l and KCI, (2) jn KBr and(3) in RbBr, respective13'. The Iow'est ba?td jn NaC] and KCI and tlte secondlowest 0110 in KBr are te?atative]y attt'ibuted to the transition of 'I:(o,., 1so.)="ct('zze 'I7Tzz) and 'Mu (Ou* 1S'g) "In ('u* 'A'zz)=
