The electronic band structure of the first-stage potassium-graphite intercalationcompound C.K was calculated by a semi-empirical tight-binding scheme. The calcu-Bated Fermi surfaces can be classified into two distinc:t types. One is potassium-like andnearly isotropic; the other is carbon-like and of cylindrical sltape. In addition, thecylindrical portions show nesting property, which is likely to inaduce charge-density "wave instability. The isotropic portions of the Fermi surfaces are responsible for thelarge reduction of anisotropy in conductivity of C.K relative to graphite. Thecalculated density of states has a peak around the Fermi level and is in good agreementwith the observed density of states derived from thc: specific heat measurements.
