Search for Magnetic Scattering in La_2CuO_4

Magnetic ordering in pure La.Cu0. has been reexamirted with high-resolutionneutron diffraction from a powder sample. We have observed the onset of antiferromagnetic ordering at a N<'el temperature of 250 K and a net moment 0.40 8 0.04 p.per Cu Ton. The Neel temperature coincides with an anomaly in the bulk susceptibili-ty. While these quantities are in disagreement with a previotts study of the same sam-pie, which yielded 240 K and l . 1 7a. respectively, they are in good agreement with a recent work by Vaknin et al.
