Neutron Scattering Study of ZnCr_2Se_4 with Screw Spin Structure

Neutron scattering experiments have been carried out on a single crystal andpowdered specimens of ZnCr.Se3, a helimagnet, above and below the transitionat T.=21.2 K. Below T., crystal belongs to Dgf. Atomic parameters of Se can beexpressed by a single parameter, *=0.3847. Rather small magnetic moment (1.71p. at 0 K) and the linear dependence of the length of the screw vector, Q., on thelattice deformation were observed. Anisotropic critical scattering (././/,:3) wasmeasured around (4 - Qc), O, 0) above 7'N and Q dependence of the exchangeinteraction constant, ./(Q), near Q. was discussed. Recent studies by Plumier et at.were critically referred.
