Magnetic and Crystallographic Study on the Electronic State of Interstitial Cations in MnSb

Ferromagnetic compounds Mnj.,5Sb with NiAs crystal structure have a wideexisting range (0<(5<0.22). Compounds of Mn....M,Sb (M=Cr, Fe and Co) areprepared in order to study the electronic state of excess Mn in Mnj.,5Sb. It isfound that the excess cations occupy the same interstitial site as Mn, and haveO p. for the case of M=Cr and Mn and about l p. for M=Fe and Co, and thatthey reduce the total magnetization and the Curie temperature at about the samerate as the case of M=Mn. A qualitative discussion is given on the analogy oftransition atom impurities in metals.
