Neutron diffraction study on the layer compounds MnPS. and FePS. revealsa collinear antiferromagnetic order, respectively, below 7'N=78 K and 120 Kwith the corresponding wave vectors k: [0004 and [0081, the unagnetic momentspointing to the direction perpendicular to the layer planes fccr both cases. Theintralayer exchange parameters between first (.Z.), second (.Z.) and third nearestneighbors (.Z.) are all antiferromagnetic for MnPS., whereas for FePS. J. isferromagnetic and J. and J. are antiferromagnetic, all of which have the sarnesign as those for the respective selenium compounds, but the absolute values area bit larger in the sulfides than in the selenides.
