Determination of Elastic Constants of K_2[PtCl_4] by Ultrasonic Measurements and Confirmation of Angular Dependence of Their Component by X-Ray Diffuse Scattering

Elastic constants of Kz[PtC1,tl were determined at room temperature by usingthe ultrasonic r>ulse sur>err>osition method. The measured elastic stiffness constantsare: C..=31.0g0.6, C33=23.240.6, C..=6.04:Iz0.37, C66=4.6880.35, C,. -9.28 and C.,x11.3 in units of 10" dynzcm". By the use of these constantsprofiles of the X-ray diffuse scattering due to long-wavelength phonons arewell reproduced.
