The effects of' halogenated alcohol on the phase transitions of' dipalnaitoyl)chosphatidylcholine(DPPC) were investigated. Difl'erentiatl scanning calorinaetry (DSC) was trsed to sttrdy the get-to-liqtrid-crystalline phase transitions. A biphasuc behatvior takes place in DPPC with h?tlogezaatedalcohol. The transutuon teutaperatttr'e f'rona the get to 21 liqtrid-crysta1lir?e ph?rse (Vl.) decreaseswith increasing concentrsttion of' halogezaated alcohol in aqtueotrs soltutiorr. Aloove the thresholdconcentration, 'T.. increases with incr'easing the concentration in tire soltrtion. Except f'or bro-mopropanol, the transition tetnperattrre decreaxses again at a tntrch higher concentration and athird-phase region is fortned. The biphasic or triph?tsic behatvior of' DPPC with halogenated alcohol is as follows: brotnoalcohol gives rise to a l?trger shi['t of 'T.. at the threshold concentrationthan chloroalcohol. The ctrrvature of 'T.n at tlae thr'eslrold concentration waxs larger in the C2lS<12of longer-chain halogenated alcohol.
