Electrical Conduction of Ag Nanowire Fabricated on Hydrogen-Terminated Si(100) Surface

Current–voltage characteristics were measured for silver nanowires formed on a hydrogen-terminated Si(100) surface using four-probe fine electrodes. The measurements were performed as a function of the amount of silver atoms deposited on atomic-scale dangling-bond wires fabricated on the hydrogen-terminated Si(100) surface. Carrier transport was observed even at the initial stage of the deposition. The conductance shows the characteristic behavior implying a change in the dominant path of current by further deposition. As possible mechanisms for the observed behavior of conductance, ballistic and diffusive transport are briefly discussed.
