Hysteresis Losses in a Type-II Superconductor in the Regime of Reversible Fluxoid Motion

The hysteresis losses due to ac magnetic fields are measured for a bulk superconducting Nb–Ta tape in the regime of reversible fluxoid motion under a bias field. The observed hysteresis losses and power factor agree well with the theoretical estimate based on Campbell's model of the force-displacement characteristic of the fluxoids. The hysteresis losses in superconducting multifilamentary wires with very fine filaments are also estimated from this scheme.
