On an Enhancement of a Critical Current of Superconductors in s Longitudinal Magnetic Field

An expression of the torque density on torsionally sheared fluxoids is derivedand the torque balance is investigated for the force-free state in superconductorsplaced in a longitudinal magnetic field. The critical current in the force-freegeometry is determined by the moment of pinning forces which prevent fluxoidsfrom rotating to reduce the torsional shear. The ratio of this critical currentdensity to that in the transverse field geometry is estimated for specimens pinnedstrongly. And the enhancement for weak pinning is also discussed qualitatively.
