Magnetic Behavior in Type II Superconductors under a Longitudinal Magnetic Field I. An Irreversible Force-Free Current

A macroscopic theory is presented for the semi-quasistatic flux distribution ina nonideal type IT superconductor in the presence of a transport current undera longitudinal magnetic field. The present theory is based on a new concept ofthe irreversible force-free current which originates from the shearing deformationof flux-line lattice due to the interactions with pins. By the use of the resultantpinning-current-density tensor, the flux distribution is calculated for a stabsample, and the results provide a reasonable explanation for observed data.It is also pointed out that the transition to the resistive state may occur whenthe rotationally shearing deformation of the flux-line lattice reaches the centerof the sample.
