Dynamic Aspect of a Phase Transition in DOPH-Millipore Membranes

For an artificial membrane in which dioleyl phosphate (DOPH) is infiltratedinto r>ores of Millirore filter, a relaxation of electric caracitance of the membranein a solution was investixated after an abrur>t channe of salt concentration.Relaxation curves of sismoid tvr>es were observed after an increase of salt con-centration, while the curves were of exronential t>'r>es after a decrease. Thesefacts suggest us that hvsteresis IOOPS of electric capacitance or this memt:>raneobserved for a cvclic variation of salt concentration belong to a different typefrom the usual ones originating from the first-order phase transition. It is shownthat these electric characteristics or the membranes can be explained well on thebasis of a model that dioleyl phosphate molecules make transitions among threephases composed of droplets, spherical micells and multi- or bilayer leaflets.
