The DC Voltage in a Foil of a Type II Superconductor Induced by the Superposition of an AC Magnetic Field

It has been shown recently that a dc voltage is induced in a foil of a type II superconductor by the superposition of a small ac magnetic field on a dc magnetic field, even for a much smaller dc transport current than the critical current of the flux flow in the absence of an ac field. In this paper, this phenomenon is investigated theoretically as well as experimentally for an ac magnetic field perpendicular to both the dc manetic field and the dc transport current. Theoretical results based on the critical-state model including the ohmic current term show satisfactory agreements with observed data in the frequency range of ω≪ω_s and ω<ω_υ where ω_s is the angular frequency above which the skin effect becomes appreciable, and ω_υ is that above which the ohmic current term becomes dominant compared with the pinning current term.
