Young female rats (70-80g) were treated for 7 days with several doses of ethane-1-hydroxy-1, 1-diphosphonate (EHDP).Effects of tratment on the changes in the growth and mineralization of proximal epiphyseal plate and metaphysis of the tibia were already studied on the histology of the decalcified tissues. Now we studied the histology of the undecalcified, hard tissues of the tibias. At low doses of EHDP (5-30mg/kg/day), resorption of the periosteal surface in the metaphysis was inhibited and at high doses of EHDP (40-150mg/kg/day), mineralization of the tibial growth plate was blocked. These observations were assessed before on the histology of the decalcified tissues.
