In 1984, Minne et al. reported the hypocalcemic effect of imidazole in rats. And so, Moncada and Needleman (1977) had reported that imidazole inhibits bone resorption in vivo and in vitro. Now, imidazole is known as an activator of adenosine-3′, 5′-phosphodiesterase which is the enzyme that degrades cyclic AMP.We are interested in the drug's effect on calcification in vivo. We investigated the effect of imidazole in rickets rats induced by EHDP. A short time and high dose EHDP inhibits the calcification of growth plates at proximal ends of rats tibia. Imidazole promoted the calcification of those growth plates in dose responsively.
