Using mitochondrial DNA sequences, phylogenetic relationships were studied on several odonate species occurring in Honshu, Japan. A calopterygid damselfly, Mnais pruinosa was roughly classified into two groups : subspecies nawai and others which were subdivided into subsp. pruinosa and costalis On the other hand, the nucleotide sequences of COI region in Somatochlora viridiaenea were identical between subsp. viridiaenea and atrovirens. The sequence of Sympetrum frequens differed from that of S. depressiusculun in a single nucleotide, but this change was synonymous, and thought to be within individual variation or polymorphism.
