Studies on Extraction and Determination of Metal Salts with Methyl Isobutyl Ketone. VIII. : Extraction of Iodides of Copper, Leas, Bismuth, Antimony, Cadmium, and Tellurium with Methyl Isobutyl Ketone

Experiments were carried out to obtain the rate of extraction of iodides of common metals with methyl isobutyl ketone. A definite quantity of the metal salt solution was placed in a separatory funnel, potassium iodide and sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid were added to form the metal iodide, and the solution was shaken vigorously for about one minute with methyl isobutyl ketone. The amount of the metal remaining in the aqueous solution was determined by a pertinent method and the quantity of the metal extracted by methyl isobutyl ketone was calculated from it. In the present series of work, general tendency of metals to this extraction was examined and experiments were then carried out on copper, lead, bismuth, antimony, cadmium, and tellurium among the metals that are extracted. The extraction of these metals under optimal condition for each metal enabled us to extract 99.7 per cent of copper, 99.9 per cent of bismuth, 99.9 per cent of cadmium, 99.4 per cent of antimony, 99.4 per cent of tellurium, and 93.9 per cent of lead.
